Finding a Halloween costume isn’t that scary! You’ll find lots of Halloween costume ideas at your local thrift store, so just go thrifting! Your local thrift store has so many gently-used Halloween costumes that it’s really too bad more people don’t head out to a thrift store at this time of the year before spending a bundle on their costume. Recently, I visited the Saver’s Thrift Store, Berkeley just off University Avenue (in the old Andronico’s Grocery Store building), and I could not believe how much Halloween stuff they had. Not only were there racks and racks of BRAND NEW Halloween costumes, but there were aisles filled with Halloween decorations. I spent $7 and got two glittery skeletons that I’ve hung in our front yard and a glow-in-the-dark skeleton that now graces our front door.
I’ve been amazed at the great Halloween decor I’ve thrifted over the years – fake crows and witches cauldrons and vintage clothing galore. I really love Halloween. Every year I make my famous Orange Pumpkin Soup, we light a fire in the hearth and see what kind of “characters” show up at our front door trick-or-treating.
So, if you haven’t yet found your perfect get-up, do yourself a favor and go thrifting!
