Fremont, and the Niles District, in particular was the backdrop for the silent film era.  The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum is a film museum located in Niles, California on the former site of the Essanay Studios where Broncho Billy and Charlie Chaplin made films in the 1910s. It shows silent films weekly.  One way to while away some time is to shop at one of Fremont’s many antique stores located in the quaint, historic Niles District.  And, let’s not forget about Fremont’s many thrift stores.  Just click on each store below.  And, you don’t have to be silent about it.  Get it?  Silent films…
