Yes, it’s true. I love to eat. So, when I’m out and about, it is quite often that I’ll combine thrifting with a search for some really great food, which is something that we happen to have a lot of here in the Bay Area.
Having just returned from West Sonoma County, I can tell you that it is one place to put on your thrift store checklist since there are some really great thrift stores. And, also, there is exceptionally good food to be consumed in this part of the Bay Area.
First, the eating. If you’ve never been (chances are high), you must take yourself to the little town of Graton, just outside Sebastopol and have a meal at Willow Wood Market. It is an adorable cafe with outdoor seating and has the most wonderful breakfast and lunch.
Now, to the thrifting. It’s true that Graton is a very small town and has no thrift stores, so you must drive the few miles into Sebastopol and check out the Sutter VNA & Hospice Thrift Store, which is located in the Lucky’s Supermarket Shopping Center.
Here it is, in all it’s thrifted glory:
This little gem now hangs in our living room. I realize that some people might find that odd, but I love decorating with the unexpected, and I think that old signs qualify. I simply re-used a piece of nice quality, gold ribbon and hung it on the wall next to our front window. (The sign was under $10)
Another item I found here is a little vintage vanity, which I whitewashed and trimmed in gilded gold paint. I changed out the old handles to glass knobs from Restoration Hardware, which gave it more of a ‘shabby chic’ look. This piece was around $15. I’m only giving you a little glimpse of it because the rest of it is covered with stuff. I’m sure you understand.
