Salvation Army Distribution Center

OMG, you could spend an entire day at this thrifting mecca!  This many-acred compound contains three separate buildings filled with thrifting goodness, plus outdoor areas overflowing with furniture, clothing and the much touted “bin” areas – where you fill up a shopping cart with goodies and get someone to give you a price!  Our cart was $6. You can even buy a car here at auction!

Here are some tips to make it a more enjoyable experience:

1.  Dress warmly or in layers  – much of this is outside, so be prepared for the elements

2. Bring gloves – you’ll be digging through bins where items are literally thrown into them, so watch out for broken glasss and other digging hazards.  While we were there a snow globe broke and got  everything in one bin wet, so be forewarned.  “It’s a bit like digging through the trash,” says friend Claudia.

3.  Bring cash – the outdoor clothing and bin areas only accept the green stuff.

4.  Bring your own shopping bags, as they are a scarce commodity here.
